Resources for Hospital CEOs

Welcome to the Ontario Health Association's (OHA) resource page developed to provide you with a high-level overview of the primary member services and resources available to you, as well as the communications you can expect to receive from the OHA.

As the voice of Ontario's public hospitals, our efforts focus on achieving a high-performing health system by providing high-value leadership and services in targeted areas for OHA members and system partners.

Networks and Committees

The OHA convenes members from across the province through networks and committees to represent the context, perspectives and issues of our diverse membership. Both networks and committees are member forums intended to inform OHA advocacy and keep members apprised of emerging issues, encourage active participation in generative discussions, and enable members to connect and collaborate with the OHA team and one another. On occasion, targeted tables are also established to respond to emerging issues within the health care system.

Labour Relations Services (LRS)

The OHA has long played a central role in the Central Bargaining process for Ontario hospitals. LRS facilitates innovative and sustainable outcomes, while seeking productive relationships with seven major unions representing hospital workers in Ontario:

  • Registered Nurses: Ontario Nurses' Association
  • Allied Health: Ontario Public Service Employees Union
  • Service, Clerical, and Registered Practical Nurses: Canadian Union of Public Employees, Services Employees International Union Health care, and Unifor
  • Residents: Professional Association of Residents of Ontario
  • Medical Physicists: Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada

Hospital CEOs regularly receive bargaining-related updates. LRS also offers counsel and advice to hospitals on interpretation of central collective agreements, reference manuals, central funding of rights arbitrations, coordination of local issues interest arbitration, advocacy on policy and legislation, and research services on collective bargaining (includes interest arbitration, as well as rights grievance arbitration).

Data and Analytics Dashboards

Hospital CEOs have access to the suite of finance and human resources (HR) tools on the OHA's Data & Analytics platform, which supports hospitals with accurate, insightful data to enable quick analysis and evidence-informed decision making. The platform includes foundational data and benchmarking platforms in finance, HR, patient experience and governance. While senior roles in finance, HR, and nursing are automatically granted access to the site, other hospital employees can request access via your organization's Local Registration Authority (LRA), with no limit to the number of users within your hospital. The LRA is an employee assigned by hospital leadership to manage employee access and ensure only appropriate individuals can access the platform's various tools. Learn more about the finance suite of tools, and the HR suite of tools available to you (log-in required).
