This Is Lakeridge Health: Celebrating the People Who Bring Care to Life

​​​To highlight t​​he breadth of care available across Durham Region and celebrate the people whose dedication shapes health care close to home, Lakeridge Health has launched an ambitious, year-long brand awareness campaign — This Is Lakeridge Health.

Although Lakeridge Health serves more than 750,000 residents through five hospitals, a long-term care home, a community surgical centre, and over 30 specialized sites, many community members still see it as a single hospital.  

For President and CEO Cynthia Davis, closing that awareness gap is critical to advancing the organization’s mission. 

“Lakeridge Health is more than just a hospital. In a province where health systems are evolving rapidly to meet growing demands, this campaign offers something vital: a human-centred narrative that honours the teams, programs, and partnerships bringing care to life every day,” said Cynthia.  

“Lakeridge Health is shaping the future of care across Durham Region,” she said. “We’re advancing services, expanding access, and ensuring no one is left behind. We know the best care should always be close to home and available to everyone. Together, we’re realizing our vision of One System. Best Health. 

That vision is carried by thousands of staff, physicians, learners, and volunteers who deliver compassionate, high-quality care every day.  

“As a leading academic health institution, Lakeridge Health also plays a critical role in training the next generation of health care professionals – a contribution that extends far beyond geographical boundaries and into the future of Ontario’s health workforce,” notes, Dr. Randy Wax, Chief of Staff. 

“From emergency care to surgery, cancer treatment, mental health and addictions services, and long-term care, Lakeridge Health’s strength lies in the diverse expertise of our teams and the integrated model that allows people to access the right care in the right place,” he said.  

“Together with our community partners, we’re building towards a comprehensive system of care defined by excellence, innovation, and compassion. The This is Lakeridge Health campaign recognizes the people and programs that bring our commitment to exceptional care for all of Durham Region to life.” 

At its core, the campaign is about storytelling – stories that honour both the complexity of modern health care and the humanity that drives it. These stories will spotlight exceptional programs, clarify areas the public may not fully understand, and elevate voices from across the network, including those of patients, clinicians, operational teams, and community partners. 

For Shara Santan, Senior Director of Strategic Communications, highlighting the lived experiences of the community is central to the campaign’s purpose. 

“Our goal is to share the stories that reflect the heart of our community – stories that help people see themselves in the care we provide. As Durham Region continues to grow and welcome newcomers, this campaign brings forward diverse perspectives, so everyone knows where to turn for care close to home."

The campaign launch includes a video and a growing array of stories available at lh.ca/this-is-lh, where residents, partners, and team members can stay engaged throughout the year. Each story reinforces a simple message: health care is shaped by people – those who work in it, partner with it, and rely on it. 

This is Lakeridge Health is more than a public awareness initiative. It is a celebration of the people who carry out the organization’s mission every day. By sharing their contributions and lived realities, Lakeridge Health is helping the community see the depth and humanity behind a modern health system – one defined not just by its facilities or programs, but by the individuals who make exceptional care possible.
