SHN Research Institute Accepted as Clinical Trials Ontario Member

Dr. Adriana Carvalhal, Scientific Director of SHN Research Institute

Scarborough Health Network Research Institute (SHN Research Institute) is proud to announce its membership in Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO), a significant milestone that will further advance our commitment to promoting collaboration and reducing barriers to conducting research.

CTO is an independent, non-profit organization established with support from the Government of Ontario. Their mandate is to work collaboratively with the clinical trials community, the public, and various partners to attract clinical trial investment to Ontario. A key to accomplishing this is their streamlined ethics review system that decreases the time needed to get trials started by having ethics reviews completed by a single, qualified research ethics board (REB) performing the review for all sites involved in a study.

Membership speeds up processes and makes collaboration easier

By joining CTO, SHN Research Institute will have access to a wealth of resources, expertise, and interorganizational opportunities that will contribute to the growth and success of our research initiatives.

Dr. Adriana Carvalhal, Scientific Director of SHN Research Institute, expressed her enthusiasm for this partnership, saying: “We are thrilled to join Clinical Trials Ontario and strengthen our position in the field of clinical research. This collaboration will enable us to accelerate our research endeavors and ultimately benefit our patients by bringing the latest advancements in healthcare to our community."

SHN Research Institute is dedicated to supporting SHN researchers and their teams in achieving their research goals. The Institute provides the necessary support and guidance to ensure smooth study start-up, operations and quality control management, and regulatory compliance, and are happy to assist with the grant submission process. They engage clinical researchers, academic institutions and the community to promote collaboration and reduce barriers to conducting and participating in research.

As SHN Research Institute embarks on this exciting new chapter with CTO, they look forward to collaborating with partners and stakeholders to drive innovation, enhance research capabilities, and ultimately provide the best possible care to our patients.
