From improving clinical workflows to enhancing the patient experience, Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) is leading a powerful digital transformation across its hospital system. By continuously optimizing its Epic electronic health record (EHR) platform and adopting best practices, HHS has introduced innovations that recently earned them the prestigious Magna Cum Laude status through Epic’s Honor Roll Good Maintenance Grant program — placing HHS among a select group of top-performing health systems worldwide in the use of EHR technology.
Magna Cum Laude is Epic’s second-highest designation and acknowledges health care organizations that demonstrate exceptional progress and performance in optimizing the Epic EHR platform. This includes adopting best practices, driving clinical and operational improvements, and continuously enhancing the user and patient experience.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and commitment to excellence shown by everyone at HHS,” says Hassan Asif, Interim Vice President, Health Information and Technology Services, and Chief Information Officer.
“Since our Epic launch in 2022, we’ve implemented numerous enhancements that are improving workflows, supporting clinical decision-making, and ultimately advancing patient care. We remain focused on maximizing the value of our Epic investment to better serve our patients, providers, and communities.”
HHS is the first health care organization in Canada - and only the second outside the United States - to receive Magna Cum Laude status. This milestone reflects HHS’s leadership in digital health innovation and its commitment to continuous improvement.
Epic’s Honor Roll is a voluntary program that challenges participating organizations to adopt best practices, stay current with system updates, and use key features that improve care delivery, operational efficiency, and staff satisfaction.
“This recognition underscores our role as a digital health leader, both nationally and internationally,” adds Asif. “It’s a proud moment for our teams and a clear signal of the exceptional care and innovation happening across HHS.”
