Behind every strong health system are individuals whose dedication, leadership, and
generosity help ensure care continues to grow and thrive. This month, we are proud to
celebrate Bob Hockney, a longtime volunteer and advocate whose contributions have made
a lasting impact on health care in Chatham-Kent.
Bob, Past Chair of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF) Board of
Directors, was recently honoured with the Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award by the
Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Canada South Chapter at the 2025 National
Philanthropy Day Awards. The recognition celebrates volunteers whose efforts elevate
philanthropy and strengthen the communities they serve — a description that fits Bob
perfectly.
During his time as CKHAF Board Chair, Bob played a pivotal role in advancing key hospital
initiatives that directly support patient care. His leadership helped guide strategic
fundraising efforts, foster meaningful relationships with donors, and ensure community
voices remained at the heart of healthcare development. Even after completing his term,
Bob has continued to generously volunteer his time, offering mentorship, advocacy, and
ongoing support to the Foundation and its mission.

“Bob’s impact extends far beyond any single role or title,” shared Christine Mitchell, CKHAF
President and CEO. “He is a true ambassador for philanthropy in Chatham-Kent — someone
who believes deeply in the power of community to strengthen healthcare for everyone.”
Volunteer leadership plays a vital role in sustaining and advancing health services, often
behind the scenes. Bob’s work is a reminder that healthcare is not only shaped by those
delivering care at the bedside, but also by those who dedicate their time, expertise, and
energy to supporting the system as a whole.
As Chatham-Kent Health Alliance continues to grow and evolve, leaders like Bob Hockney
help ensure that patient care remains strong, innovative, and community-focused. His
recognition by AFP is a well-earned tribute to years of service that have helped make
health care better for countless people across our region.
