Bringing Breast Imaging Closer to Home in Guelph

Guelph General Hospital’s new Diagnostic Imaging Centre at the GGH Speedvale Campus now offers breast imaging services. Beginning March 27, patients with a physician referral can access comprehensive screening and diagnostic care at the new centre.

“As an Ontario Breast Screening Program assessment site, the GGH Speedvale Campus provides breast screening and related services in a modern, purpose-built space,” said Dr. Remon Elyas, radiologist and chief of diagnostic imaging at Guelph General Hospital.

“Located separate from the hospital, patients will appreciate the comfortable, stress-free environment the centre offers, with easier access, convenient parking and a welcoming setting designed to help patients feel at ease.”

The new centre reflects a growing focus on improving the patient experience by designing care around comfort, access and convenience. By offering breast imaging services in a modern, purpose-built space separate from the hospital, the centre reduces common stressors associated with clinical environments while making it easier for patients to attend appointments.

Located at Unit 1, 460 Speedvale Avenue West, on the Guelph campus of Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, the centre opened March 2 and the expanded space has already had a positive impact, improving access to diagnostic imaging services across the community.

Early demand underscores the impact, with hundreds of procedures completed in just weeks — helping ensure patients receive timely, high-quality care closer to home while feeling more at ease throughout their experience.

“In the first three weeks since opening, the centre has completed 625 procedures, underscoring strong demand for these services,” said Erin Lane, director of diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory and sleep lab services at Guelph General Hospital.

“The Speedvale Campus represents an important milestone in expanding access to high-quality imaging in Guelph and the surrounding area. It enables us to deliver more timely, efficient care in a dedicated community setting, while keeping patients closer to home as demand continues to grow.”
