The Trillium Gift of Life Network has once again recognized the Guelph General Hospital team for their impressive results in organ and tissue donation. New this year is the Award of Excellence – Eligible Approach Rate for meeting or exceeding the provincial target for four years.

In 2024/2025, GGH supported three organ donors, which led to 12 organs donated for transplant, saving eight lives. Additionally, there were 23 tissue donors, significantly improving the quality of life for numerous recipients.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated and compassionate team at Guelph General Hospital supporting our organ and tissue donation program — including our care partners and families. These conversations and the decisions that follow are never easy. I’m deeply grateful each time someone makes the courageous decision to offer the gift of renewed health to others and for the exceptional care our team provides during these difficult moments,” said Andrea Lucas, Vice-President Patient Services and Chief Nursing Executive at Guelph General Hospital.

Guelph General Hospital was the proud recipient of the following awards:

  • Two Awards of Excellence for meeting or exceeding provincial targets for four or more consecutive years.
  • The Provincial Conversion Rate Award for exceeding the provincial target of 63 percent (GGH achieved 100 percent). The conversion rate is the percentage of potential organ donors who went on to become actual donors.
  • The Provincial Eligible Approach Rate Award for exceeding the provincial target of 90 percent (GGH achieved 100 percent). This award recognizes hospitals who facilitate a donation discussion with eligible patients and families.

“This year’s record level of recognition is a testament to the dedicated, patient-centred care provided by Guelph General Hospital’s health care team as they honour and support the decisions of patients and their families to donate,” said Janet MacLean, Interim Vice-President, Trillium Gift of Life Network. “It also reflects the deep commitment of Ontario hospitals to fostering a culture where organ and tissue donation is a natural and meaningful part of end-of-life care.”
