William Osler Health System (Osler) has reached a key milestone in the historic transformation of its Peel Memorial site with the release of the new hospital's Request for Proposals (RFP) earlier this fall. When completed, the new Peel Memorial Hospital will bring a substantial increase in services for patients in Brampton and surrounding areas for generations to come. The new tower and existing building together will house a new purpose-built Emergency Department, more beds for patients in need of longer hospital stays, expanded outpatient clinics and comprehensive services including diagnostic imaging, surgery and other critical health services already established on site.
“Reaching the RFP stage for the new Peel Memorial Hospital is a testament to the unwavering dedication of Osler's teams, in partnership with the Ontario Government, Infrastructure Ontario, the City of Brampton, Osler Foundation, and our incredible community," said Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO, William Osler Health System. “This project ensures that our communities will have timely access to high-quality care close to home, when and where they need it most."
After a competitive Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process that began in Spring 2024, four teams have been shortlisted and invited to develop proposals outlining how they will deliver the project through Infrastructure Ontario's (IO) Progressive Design-Build contract model. Proposals will be evaluated by IO and Osler, with the top-ranked team advancing to a Development Phase, working closely with Osler and IO towards a construction agreement with the successful partner to build the new tower.
“Our government is making record investments to expand and modernize Ontario's hospitals to connect more people to world-class hospital care where and when they need it," said Hon. Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “We celebrate this important milestone in the transformation of Peel Memorial Hospital, which is another step forward in ensuring patients and families in Brampton and surrounding communities can continue to access high-quality care, close to home, for years to come."
Osler continues to advance pre-construction activity at the Peel Memorial site, with early construction anticipated to begin in Spring 2025.
The final design and construction timeline for the new Peel Memorial Hospital will be determined in collaboration with the selected partner.
