Human Resources (HR) Benchmarking

HRB Image2.png

What is your organization's HR data really telling you? Without knowing where you are, it's hard to know whereHRB Image.png to go next. The OHA's HR metrics and benchmarking data can help organizations map a route to meet their needs by identifying strengths and weaknesses, and also where they stand among peers in every category.

Using information reported by participating organizations for 15 health care job classes, the OHA's database of HR metrics allows organizations to benchmark against industry standards, determine the effectiveness of their HR plans, assess what must change to make them better, and learn how others have successfully managed people.

With job classes ranging from administrative to clerical, nursing, paramedical and service staff, organizations will have access to exceptionally relevant and specific information that examines every aspect of working in health care. In fact, the OHA collects data on more than 250 HR metrics in the areas of staffing, vacancy, turnover, age, tenure, sick leave, and occupational health and safety.

Key features of the Dashboard include:

  • 5 years of trend data
  • 30+ organization-wide level key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • 6 job-class level KPIs (view all job classes at a glance)
  • Select custom peer group of hospitals
  • New visualizations and table views
  • Hospital-level data (by year or by hospital name)

Drilling Down to Indicators

By tracking Ontario healthcare HR metrics, the benchmarking tool provides clean, reliable data to measure an organization's performance in important areas. But it also has deeper levels of data to dive into as needed. For example, if there's room to improve on your organization’s attrition rates, you can drill down into your organization's key indicators for particular roles to examine how these are influencing your organization’s numbers.

Questions you can get answers to:

  • What's the average age of your employees by job class and how does it compare?
  • How many of your executives are eligible to retire in the next five years?
  • Are your overtime rates too high?
  • Is the span of control for your nurse managers typical?
  • How do your organization's musculoskeletal injury rates compare to other Ontario health care organizations?
