Recommended Patient Experience Surveys

The OHA’s vision is for Ontario’s hospitals to be equipped with appropriate and effective patient experience measurement resources that enable them to better understand and improve the experience of their patients.

With guidance from sector-specific committees, the OHA has been leading ongoing efforts to refresh and enhance the patient experience surveying instruments available to hospitals, and to ensure the continued use of common, validated longitudinal surveys to meet evolving hospital and patient needs.

Survey Instruments Selection Process

Beginning in September 2014, the OHA has led a number of survey review committees comprised of stakeholders including representatives from: hospitals, physicians, patients, Health Quality Ontario, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Local Health Integration Networks. These committees reviewed options for validated patient survey instruments for use in the new OHA contract, with the goal of identifying and recommending validated scientifically robust tools. National and international thought leaders and subject matter experts were also consulted throughout this process to ensure alignment on instruments and methodological approach.

In this section, you will find links to the new longitudinal patient experience survey instruments recommended by the OHA-led survey review committees.

Note: All surveys are available in English and French. Some surveys are available in languages other than English and French. Please contact us for additional information.
