Hospital Information System Renewal

The August 2016 report of the Hospital Information System (HIS) Renewal Advisory Panel encouraged hospitals to come together in multi-hospital clusters for the procurement, deployment and delivery of hospital information systems that support an integrated care model that puts patients first.

Optimizing the benefits from HIS investments will depend on advancing maturity in three streams in tandem.

1. Clustering

  • Transitioning from individual hospital care models to quality, integrated health care delivery systems.

2. Clinical Adoption & Outcomes

  • Transitioning from individual hospital clinical practices to use of agreed-upon provincial clinical standards and leading practices.

3. HIS Service Delivery

  • Transitioning from individual hospital HISs to advanced HIS services acquired from a provincial HIS service.

The OHA is pleased to provide access to a range of reference materials and resources, developed by the provincial HIS Renewal Implementation Task Force and the HIS Renewal Secretariat, designed to assist hospitals in their HIS Renewal journey.
