Alex Munter
Board Member
Alex Munter has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario – Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre), an integrated child and youth health system in eastern Ontario (2/3 acute care, 1/3 community care) since 2011.
Prior to joining CHEO, Alex was Chief Executive Officer of the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), and before that, he was Executive Director of the Youth Services Bureau (YSB), one of Ontario's largest accredited children's mental health agencies.
Alex was a City and Regional Councillor in Ottawa from 1991 to 2003, including six years as head of council committees responsible for health and social services (including public health, long-term care, ambulance service and health-related social care).
Alex currently serves on the boards of Health Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC), Children's Mental Health Ontario, Kids Health Alliance, Chair of Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership. Previously, he was board member of Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association, Community Foundation of Ottawa, Ottawa Art Gallery, and Ottawa Children's Aid Society.
Alex serves on the Premier's Council on Improving Health Care - Work Group on Efficiency and Alignment and previously was a member of Premier's Council on Improving Health Care – Work Group on Acute Care, Co-chair of Immune Globulin Funding Consultation Group, Health Care Worker Influenza Immunization Steering Committee, Health Information Systems Renewal Advisory Panel, Co-Chair Healthy Kids Expert Panel on Childhood Obesity, Public Health Capacity Review Expert Panel, and the Ottawa-Carleton District Health Council. Alex also served as Chair of the 2019 OHA Leadership Summit, the OHA's Working Group on Home and Community Care and Transition Planning Committee, and the OHA-Ministry Hospital Advisory Committee on funding reform.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSocSc) from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Science (MSc) in Behavioural Science from the London School of Economics, and is a Certified Health Executive (CHE) from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
