**Please note that all remaining sessions are at capacity, however to accomodate those hospitals who have not been able to register to attend a session, one extra session will be offered (date to be confirmed).  An email will be sent to those hospitals who have not participated in a session, providing further details next week. For further information please contact Karen Sequeira (ksequeira@oha.com).

During the Just Clean Your Handstraining sessions hospital teams will explore how the Just Clean Your HandsProgram can be used to implement a hand hygiene program in their own hospital or how elements of the program can be used to enhance their existing hand hygiene campaigns. It is strongly recommended that a multidisciplinary group attend the training session. Hospitals should send resources that will be able to cover the roles of trainer, implementation coordinator, and auditor.

Participants will then champion the Just Clean Your Hands Program in their hospitals. Training of front line healthcare providers on "when and how" to perform hand hygiene will be conducted by these training participants in their local settings.

Infection Prevention and Control programs and practices are on the radar. One essential component is developing effective hand hygiene practices. The Canadian Council on Health Services (CCHSA) has a Required Organizational Practice (ROP) for hospitals to show that they track infection rates, analyze data, and deliver education and training to staff and providers on hand hygiene. Improving hand hygiene can decrease transmission of infections, reduce costs, and save lives.

The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) has now launched the Just Clean Your Hands Program. Ontario has been working collaboratively with provincial, national and global experts to develop an evidence based, multifaceted hand hygiene program to support hand hygiene improvements in hospitals. The Just Clean Your Hands Program was successfully pilot tested in 10 Ontario Hospitals from December 2006 to August 2007.

How do hospitals learn how to implement Ontario’s Just Clean Your Hands program?

    · The OHA is partnering with the MOHLTC to deliver train-the-trainer sessions on the components of the Just Clean Your Hands Program. The training is formatted as a “train- the-trainer” model and will be an evening and one full day with a goal of training participants on how to implement the evidence-based hand hygiene program within their hospital facility.

    · All Ontario hospitals are invited and encouraged to send up to three participants to “train-the–trainer sessions that begin at the end of March.

    · Select three participants to attend the evening and full day training session.
o These participants will then champion the Just Clean Your Hands Program and provide training to others in your facility.
§ The individuals selected to attend should cover the roles of trainer, observer and implementation coordinator. It is strongly recommended that a multidisciplinary group attend the training sessions.

    · There is no cost to the hospitals/participants and all travel and expenses for one night’s accommodation will be reimbursed by the Project. Meals during the training session will also be provided (dinner, breakfast, and lunch).

    · Participants must register to attend a session.
