Urgent: Federal Funding Proposal

For the Attention of
Hospital CEOs, OHA Board of Directors and
CACN Members

From Steve Orsini
Vice President, Policy and Public Affairs

The Ontario Hospital Association has learned of the details of the current proposal being offered by the federal government at the First Ministers Meeting in Ottawa.

Essentially, the federal government is offering a total of $2 billion in each of the next six years, meaning Ontario's share is approximately $800 million each year. It is important to note that this deal, being billed as a fix for a generation by the Prime Minister, is less than previous years' increases in federal funding for health care.

There is an urgent need to communicate the inadequacy of this proposal. To that end, the OHA issued a news release earlier this morning, calling on all federal Ontario M.Ps to stand up for the health care of our 12 million residents and urge the Prime Minister to recognize the very serious challenges health providers face given a growing and aging population.

We strongly encourage each hospital to contact your M.P. today to press the case for the federal government to become a true partner in health care by providing adequate funding to allow hospitals to reduce wait times.
