Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs Pre-Budget Consultations
For the Attention of Hospital CEOs, Board Chairs, OHA Board of Directors and CACN Members

Ontario's pre-Budget process will kick into high gear on January 10, 2005 when the Ontario Legislatures' Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs (SCFEA) begins its cross-province consultation process. The dates and locations of this consultation are as follows:
· January 10 - Sault Ste. Marie
· January 11 - Sudbury
· January 12 - Ottawa
· January 13 - Kingston
· January 17 - London
· January 18 and 19 - Toronto
· January 20 - Whitby
The OHA has requested an opportunity to make an oral presentation to the SCFEA at its Toronto hearings. We intend to present a province-wide picture of hospitals’ current funding situation and to propose concrete ideas to protect patient care.
Individual hospitals are encouraged to seek an opportunity to make an oral presentation at the SCFEA pre-Budget hearings nearest to them. These hearings are a great opportunity for hospitals, individually or collectively, to draw the attention of legislators, local media, and the public to their particular challenges and to their proposed solutions.
Oral presentations may last up to 15 minutes and may incorporate visual aids.
Hospitals that wish to make an oral presentation to the SCFEA must contact the Committee Clerk, Trevor Day (416-325-3509 or by email at Trevor.day@ontla.ola.org) before 12:00 p.m. January 7, 2005. Each hospital must indicate which date(s) and locations(s) would be preferable for their presentation, as well as who would be making the presentation. Hospitals whose presentation requests are accepted will be contacted directly by the Committee.
Hospitals that do not wish to make an oral presentation are encouraged to make a written submission to the Committee. Written submissions must be received by the Clerk of the Committee by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2005. These submissions must be sent to:
