Southeast Asia Tsunami Disaster Relief

For the Attention of: Hospital CEOs, Board Chairs, OHA Board of Directors and CACN Members

From: Hilary Short, President & CEO

The OHA has been contacted by the Ontario government in respect to coordinating disaster relief efforts in response to the tsunami that has devastated parts of southeast Asia. The Ontario government is working directly with the Government of Canada on coordinating all Canadian-based relief efforts.

You will see from the attached memo from the Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care that OHA is participating with other health care organizations in a program to identify individuals and organizations that may be able to provide skills and/or resources to assist in organized relief efforts through Emergency Management Ontario. A 1-800 telephone number has been established for individuals to register their names, skills, languages spoken and contact information. Organizations with equipment and supplies to contribute can register using this same number. GTA area callers may call 416-212-0822, while callers outside this area should call 1-866-212-2272.

As additional information or requests for assistance are made to the OHA by appropriate Emergency Management authorities, we will let members know immediately. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me or Roz Smith, Vice President – Member and Professional Relations at 416-205-1332 if you have any additional questions or comments.
