Physician Assistant Initiative Update with Videoconference Q and As
In response to interest expressed by hospitals following the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) videoconference on the new Physician Assistant Hospital Demonstration Project, which is being led by the OHA, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), a document responding to questions asked during the videoconference has been developed, and is attached as part of this email package.
As communicated in a February 13th OHA Bulletin, the OHA, MOHLTC and the OMA are proceeding with a Physician Assistant Hospital Demonstration Project to implement and evaluate the role of a Physician Assistant (PA) in a variety of hospital settings. PAs are highly skilled health professionals that have been trained to support registered physicians in a broad range of health care settings. The project is part of the province’s health human resources strategy, “HealthForceOntario”, which was launched in May of 2006.
Hospitals interested in participating as a demonstration site may submit an expression of interest form (attached, as part of email package) to the OHA by fax at 416-205-1390. The original deadline of February 27, 2007 has been extended to March 8, 2007.
For any questions, please contact Sheila Tymstra, Director, OHA Health Human Resources Strategy at 416-205-1380 or by email at stymstra@oha.com.
