Toronto – Ontario hospitals are marking National Nursing Week by commending the work of the province’s nurses and the vital role they play in quality patient care.

“Ontario hospitals and their patients value the skill and commitment that nurses bring to their jobs,” said Hilary Short, President and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association.

“The province is a great place for nurses to pursue their personal and professional goals and, as professionals, nurses are unmatched in their desire to continually update their skills and better serve their patients.”

Attracting and retaining nurses in today’s competitive labour environment is a top priority for Ontario hospitals. This past year saw a number of positive initiatives develop for the nursing profession, including a new nursing graduate guarantee that will ensure every nurse coming out of school has a full-time job.

“Nurses are a critical part of Ontario’s health care team and we thank them for all the hard work they do,” Short said.

National Nursing week runs from May 7-13. The theme is “Think you know nursing? Take a closer look.”
