Toronto – Ontario hospitals and unionized nurses at participating hospitals have voted in favour of a new, three-year agreement following negotiations between the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA). Hospital nurses and ONA hospitals have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the agreement.
“Ontario’s hospitals value the hard work and dedication of its nurses,” said OHA President and CEO, Tom Closson. “The number of hospitals and their nurses showing overwhelming support for this agreement indicates that this is a very solid contract that sets the stage for an even more productive working relationship between ONA and Ontario hospitals over the next three years.”
The agreement, which includes compounded salary increases of 9.55 per cent over its three-year term (3.25 in year one, and 3.0 in years two and three), also features a lump sum payment which increases with the individual nurse’s length of service.
Additional key details of the agreement include:
• Vacation, benefit and premium pay improvements;
• Contract language relating to the improvement of workplace safety; and
• Commitments to address violence in the workplace.
The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) is a voluntary organization representing approximately 158 public hospital corporations (across 225 sites in Ontario), while the Ontario Nurses’ Association represents more than 50,000 registered nurses across the province.
Of the 158 public hospital corporations, 133 are covered by this agreement. As the voice of Ontario’s hospitals, the OHA is shaping the health care system by fostering leadership, supporting innovation and building linkages between hospitals and their communities.
