TORONTO --Today's Ontario government investment in Community Health Centres (CHCs) is welcome news because it will improve access to needed health care services for thousands of people, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) said today.

"Community Health Centres play an important role in our health care system because they provide care to some of the most vulnerable people in our Province," said OHA President and CEO Hilary Short. "Today’s announcement by Minister Smitherman is very positive news because it means thousands of people in communities across Ontario will now have better access to the health care they need."

According to details from today’s announcement, additional provincial funding for Community Health Centres will allow new staff to be hired and services to be expanded at the 54 CHCs across Ontario. It will also fund the creation 10 new satellites and help stabilize existing CHC programs.

"Hospitals and Community Health Centres are partners in providing care," added Short. "Expanding community-based services is an important step forward in improving health system integration in Ontario."
