For the Attention of
Hospital CEOs, OHA Board of Directors, and Infection Control Practitioners
Greg Shaw
Vice President, Strategic Human Resources Management
Launching of the Infection Prevention and Control Core Competency Education Program for all Health Care Providers

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) in collaboration with the OHA, the Ministry of Labour (MOL), and other key stakeholders is launching the first three acute care modules of a standardized “Infection Prevention and Control Core Competency Education” (IPCCCE) program (see attached letter). IPCCCE Program will assist health care providers in understanding the basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control to work safely to protect themselves and their patients.

The IPCCCE has been developed with scientific and expert advice from the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) Infection Prevention and Control subcommittee. The program is designed to be an interactive learning experience with the first three modules being launched:
      • Chain of Transmission
      • Hand Hygiene
      • Routine Practices

Implications for Hospitals
The IPCCCE modules will be launched in April 2007 as a CD program which can be used in either group education sessions or as self-directed learning. Hospitals are encouraged to support this program within their organizations.

The OHA will host a videoconference entitled “Infection Prevention and Control Core Competency Education for Acute Care Professional” on Tuesday March 20 from 9AM-12:30PM (EST) (see attached brochure). Hospitals who have not already registered are encouraged to visit one of the registered sites listed on the brochure to view the presentation in person. The event will also be archived and available on April 12, 2007.
