Earlier today, the Fraser Institute released a study entitled Where Does the Money Go? A Study of Worker Pay in Ontario's Hospitals.

In summary, this article is based on data from Statistics Canada, CIHI and Ontario's data collected under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act. The study makes a number of findings and compares salaries for various groups of employees in Ontario's hospitals with those in other provinces and other sectors. Overall the study charges that all funding increases received by hospitals are being devoted to increases in workers' salaries, while also pointing to a need for hospitals to be funded in a new way.

As Ontario's hospitals currently face a $600 million funding shortfall, we welcome reports such as today’s that discuss the need for a new funding arrangement which funds hospitals according to the actual costs of providing care to patients.

It is possible you will be contacted by your local media for comment. Please find attached an issues note on the study, including recommended key messages.
