As part of the Ontario Hospital Association’s (OHA) commitment to improving quality and patient safety throughout the health care system, in December 2009 the OHA Board of Directors approved the OHA Quality and Patient Safety Plan (QPSP) 2010-2013. The QPSP will guide the OHA over the next three years in working with members and stakeholders to improve the quality of care and patient safety in Ontario.
The QPSP was developed through a truly collaborative process, driven by a working group (click here for a list of members) and over 181 key stakeholders, which included representation from all types of hospitals. The OHA recognizes that while hospitals play an important role in the broader health sector, they do not work in isolation. Therefore, the interface between the hospital and the broader health system is given priority in the plan and its objectives.
The QPSP embodies the OHA’s view that quality and safety must be improved at the system level. While the QPSP is ambitious, its goals are reasonable and achievable.
QPSP Vision
Every patient receives safe, appropriate, and effective quality care, and providers work together to contribute to a high-performing health system.
QPSP Goals
1. Champion the adoption of a culture of quality and patient safety.
2. Advocate for system alignment of national, provincial and local quality and patient safety initiatives and measurements.
3. Advance the system-wide adoption and dissemination of leading evidence-based practices in quality and patient safety.
