Our Goals:
- Advance the system-wide adoption of leading, evidence-based strategic health human resource policies, programs and practices.
- Promote HR as a key strategic priority of health care organizations.
Accomplishments to March 31, 2011 include:
- Developed and released new OHA-NRC Picker Employee and Physician Experience Surveys that provides actionable information to improve work environments and nurture a more engaged and capable workforce that is better able to deliver high-quality patient and client care.
- Developed a new OHA Healthy Workplace Model that integrates healthy workplace, human resources, and quality and safety goals within a performance-focused framework. This model guided the development of the employee and physician surveys.
- Launched the annual Quality Healthcare Workplace Awards program in partnership with the MOHLTC. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards were presented at HealthAchieve.
- Hosted monthly provincial Healthy Work Environment teleconferences to enhance knowledge transfer and resource sharing.
- Conducted Labour Market (2009) and Absence (2009, 2010 and 2011) Surveys with hospital members to collect human resources data related to turnover, vacancy, headcount, staff demographics, and absenteeism.
- Partnered with PricewaterhouseCoopers Saratoga Institute to establish a provincial HR benchmarking program including a survey, standardized HR benchmarking indicators, and definitions. In the inaugural year, over 100 members participated in the program.
- Released the OHA HR Benchmarking Guidebook containing a concise primer on HR metrics and benchmarking as well as a number of case studies.
- Hosted two webcasts and seven regional rountable meetings with members that reviewed the overall results of the HR benchmarking survey.
- Promoted leading human resources practices and research through access to the Advisory Board Company HR Investment Center program.
- Released Leading Practices for Addressing Clinical Manager Span of Control in Ontario, a report identifying key leading practices and strategies that health care employers can consider to assist in alleviating negative impacts of large manager spans of control on staff and patients.
