Our Goal:
- Align health human resources requirements with future models of health care.
Accomplishments to March 31, 2011 include:
- Hosted a webcast, Perceptions of Students on Careers in Health Care, to share research findings from the Gandalf Group to assist employers in the development of communications to students about careers in health care and the effective recruitment and retention of young people.
- Hosted The Future of Healthcare Work Environments session at HealthAchieve2009.
- Provided the Standing Committee on Social Policy input regarding the Regulated Health Professions Statute Law Amendment Act (Bill 179).
- Provided the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) with commentary on how to best advance interprofessional collaborative practice through changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), and on extending prescribing powers for non-physician providers.
- Supported the implementation of the Ontario Physician Assistant (PA) Initiative in 22 hospitals across Ontario, the expansion of the project in hospital Emergency Departments and the new PA McMaseter Graduate Initiative.
- Submitted policy reccomendations to the MOHLTC on the integration of PAs in Ontario from the hospital perspective.
- Developed a policy recommendation document for submission to the MOHLTC in collaboration with all demonstration project leads (Ontario Medical Association, Association of Ontario Health Centres, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and the Hay Group) intended to help inform decisions regarding the long term framsworks for PAs in Ontario.
- Hosted a legal webcast on the regulation of Pharmacy Technicians.
- Hosted a conference on Interprofessional Care to provide a forum for hospitals to share innovative models of collaborative and multidisciplinary care.
- Hosted a conference on enhancing the use of Nurse Practitioners in Ontario to help address the HHR challenges across the continuum of care.
- Provided a submission to HealthForceOntario on how patients might benefit from Nurse Practitioners admitting, discharging and transferring hospital in-patients.
- Launched the Resource Manual for Sustaining Quality Midwifery Services in Hospitals which is designed to assist hospitals in improving the integration of midwives into their maternity care teams.
- Provided the Ontario College of Pharmacists with feedback on its proposed regulations regarding the expanded scope of practice for pharmacy as well as how to best enable remote dispensing in the province to enhance patient access to pharmacy services.
