The sustainability of the health care system in Ontario (and throughout Canada) depends on an adequate supply of appropriately trained health care professionals.
Researchers have warned health care stakeholders of significant health care human resources shortages over the next 15-20 years as many professionals in the current workforce retire. Improving the licensure and integration of internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) is an important and essential piece of a broader health human resources strategy to deal with the current and looming shortage.
Under the OHA Provincial Health Human Resources (HR) Strategic Plan 2008-2011, the OHA has begun to offer resources and support to members that are striving to improve the recruitment, retention, and integration of IEHPs into their workplace.
These efforts are detailed in the OHA Initiatives and Resource Centre pages on this site.
