Central Bargaining
The OHA has long been a part of the Central Bargaining process for Ontario hospitals. Hospital Employee Relations Services (HERS) coordinates and implements the Central Bargaining process for the seven major unions representing hospital workers in Ontario.
The OHA negotiates on behalf of voluntarily participating hospitals with:
- Ontario Nurses’ Association (approximately 140 hospitals covering 50,000 employees)
- Ontario Public Sector Employees Union (approximately 54 hospitals covering over 6,500 employees)
- Canadian Union for Public Employees (approximately 44 hospitals covering over 18,000 employees)
- Service Employees International Union (approximately 37 hospitals covering over 13,500 employees)
- Canadian Auto Workers (approximately 8 hospitals covering over 650 employees)
- Professional Association for Interns and Residents of Ontario (approximately 20 hospitals covering over 2,300 interns and residents)
- Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (Voluntary Central Bargaining for this group, under the auspices of HERS, will occur for the first time in 2010)
