Preparing Hospitals for Freedom of Information Implementation

Begining January 1, 2012, Ontario hospitals will be included under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The OHA is committed to providing a comprehensive set of tools and educational programming to ensure hospital preparedness.

On December 8, 2010, the Government of Ontario passed the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act, 2010 (BPSAA).  The BPSAA contains amendments to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) that extends its applications to Ontario hospitals, beginning January 1, 2012.

To help hospitals prepare for their FIPPA accountabilities, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) is developing a number of practical tools, templates, and guidance materials that will give hospitals a more detailed understanding of the legislation and its requirements.  The OHA is also planning educational sessions to support hospitals with their implementation efforts.
