Janet Davidson named Chair of Ontario Hospital Association Board

November 10, 2011

TORONTO, ON -- Janet Davidson, O.C. President and CEO of Trillium Health Centre, has been named Chair of the Ontario Hospital Association's (OHA) Board of Directors.

Davidson’s appointment was made at the OHA’s Annual Meeting of Members, which coincided with the association’s annual HealthAchieve conference, Canada's largest educational conference for health professionals.

“I am both honoured and excited to serve as the OHA’s Board Chair,” Davidson said. “At a time when Ontario’s health system is poised for change, the OHA’s vision to achieve a high performing health system seems all the more significant. It puts emphasis on the system as a whole – what’s best for the patients – and that is how I hope to lead the OHA’s efforts over the next year.”

“Janet has tremendous experience and passion for health system connectedness and improvement,” says OHA President and CEO, Tom Closson. “I know the OHA Board, its members, and its staff are keen to work with Janet in the year ahead. They are enthusiastic about her leadership and have strong faith that she will continue building strong strategic relationships and alliances with our member organizations and partners across the health system.”

Davidson was elected to the OHA Board of Directors in 2008 and has had a lengthy and successful career in the health care sector. She is a trained nurse, holds a Master of Health Services Administration degree from the University of Alberta, and has over 25 years of health care management experience within Alberta, B.C., and Ontario. She has also served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Health in Alberta, and in 2006, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Davidson was awarded a Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) from the University of Windsor on June 19, 2009 and has twice been named as one of Canada's top 100 most powerful women.

Earlier this year, Davidson announced that she would be leaving her position at Trillium Health Centre in pursuit of new opportunities to contribute to broader public policy decisions. During HealthAchieve’s Closing Session today, she noted that voluntarily representing the OHA as its Board Chair would be one opportunity to do so.
