December 8, 2011

Toronto, ON – Efficient leadership is imperative to creating a high performing health care system. With that in mind, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) recently asked an independent expert panel to review executive compensation policies and practices in Ontario hospitals and make recommendations respecting appropriate guidelines for hospital sector executive compensation.

WHAT: Led by The Honourable John Manley, P.C., O.C, the panel will publish its final report on executive compensation policies and practices in Ontario hospitals. Panel members, and Tom Closson, President & CEO of the OHA, will be available at a news conference to answer media questions at that time.

WHEN: The news conference will be held on Friday, December 9th, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. The report will be made available on the OHA website (www.oha.com) on Friday, December 9th, 2011, at 8:00 a.m and can be found in the “Looking for Something” section on the homepage.

WHERE: The Sutton Place Hotel, Toronto.  955 Bay Street – London/Edinburgh Suite.

PANELISTS: The Honourable John Manley, P.C., O.C., is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. In addition to his private sector experience, he has served as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and federal Minister of Industry, Foreign Affairs and Finance.

William Anderson, FCA, is a corporate director who is currently Chair of Nordion Inc., and serves as a Director for TransAlta Corporation, Gildan Activewear Inc. and Sun Life Financial Inc. Mr. Anderson is a former Chief Financial Officer of BCE/Bell Canada. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Peter Barnes served in the Ontario Government as Secretary of Cabinet, Clerk of the Executive Council, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and Deputy Minister of Community and Social Services.

WHY: In April 2011, the Board of Directors of the OHA approved a motion to sponsor an Independent Expert Panel on Executive Compensation in Hospitals. The Panel will make recommendations to the OHA about appropriate long-term compensation policy and practice guidelines for the range of hospital organizations that exist within the province.
