Toronto, ON – Good leadership is imperative to the sustainability and quality of healthcare in Canada. With that in mind, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) recently asked an independent expert panel to review executive compensation policies and practices in Ontario hospitals and make recommendations respecting appropriate guidelines for hospital sector executive compensation.
Led by The Honourable John Manley, P.C., O.C, the panel will publish its final report on Friday, December 9th, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Panel members will be available to answer media questions at that time. (Additional details about this media availability will be provided in the days ahead via Canada Newswire.)
Background
In April 2011, the Board of Directors of the OHA approved a motion to sponsor an Independent Expert Panel on Executive Compensation in Hospitals. The Panel will make recommendations to the OHA about appropriate long-term compensation policy and practice guidelines for the range of hospital organizations that exist within the province.
The Panelists
The Honourable John Manley, P.C., O.C., is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. In addition to his private sector experience, he has served as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and federal Minister of Industry, Foreign Affairs and Finance.

Mr. Anderson is a former Chief Financial Officer of BCE/Bell Canada. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Peter Barnes served in the Ontario Government as Secretary of Cabinet, Clerk of the Executive Council, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and Deputy Minister of Community and Social Services.

- Confirming the leadership competencies required to lead and manage different hospital organizations;
- Assessing the potential recruitment and retention impact, if any, of recent Ontario government policy decisions affecting hospital sector executive compensation;
