Toronto, ON - Doing four things better would dramatically improve patient access to Ontario’s health care system and the quality of the care they receive, concludes a new paper developed collaboratively by the Ontario Association of Community Care Access Centres (OACCAC) and the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA).
The OACCAC represents Ontario’s 14 Community Care Access Centres, the organizations that give Ontarians a single point of access and connection to the most appropriate health care services to meet their needs, ensuring the right care in the right place at the right time. The OHA represents Ontario’s 152 public hospitals.
Entitled “Four Pillars: Recommendations for Achieving a High Performing Health System,” the paper identifies the strategic challenges facing Ontario’s health care system, and outlines the actions that must be taken to ensure it can meet the access and quality of care needs of patients in today’s challenging economic environment. The pillars are: Setting Ambitious Goals; Planning Properly; Letting Evidence Drive Care Decisions; and, Connecting Care.
Four Pillars: Recommendations for Achieving a High Performing Health System is available at www.oaccac.on.ca and at www.oha.com.
Key Quotes:
“The recommendations in Four Pillars are straightforward,” said Margaret Mottershead, OACCAC CEO. “We believe that, if acted upon, the recommendations made in Four Pillars would make existing health programs better, underpin new access and quality improvement initiatives, bring increased value for taxpayers, and make it possible for our health system to meet the needs and expectations of Ontarians now and in the future.”
“Getting fundamentals like goal-setting, planning, and letting evidence drive patient care decisions right will have an immediate, positive impact on the quality and costs of health care services in Ontario,” said Tom Closson, CEO of the OHA. “We invite the members of every political party, and anyone who is interested in improving patient access to high quality health care services, to read Four Pillars.”
