Statement from the Ontario Hospital Association re: H1N1

October 29, 2009

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) is seeing the benefits of years of careful planning, preparation and practice as Ontario’s hospitals continue to meet the challenges of the H1N1 pandemic.

Following the recommendation of Justice Campbell's report on SARS, hospitals have incorporated the concept of taking every reasonable precaution into their pandemic plans, along with the application of the Incident Management Systems (IMS), and are working well with the provincial government and agencies to effectively manage and respond to H1N1.

The OHA encourages health care providers and members of the general public alike to follow the directives and recommendations of their local Medical Officer of Health and their Public Health Unit.

Information on the H1N1 virus is available from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s Emergency Management Unit website:

http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/providers/program/emu/emu_mn.html

as well as the Public Health Agency of Canada:
