There is a growing requirement for improved talent management planning in the Ontario health services sector. Because of the anticipated loss of leadership due to retirement, as well as an increased pressure for accountability and a continually changing health care environment, there is justifiable concern about maintaining an adequate supply of current and future leaders with the required skills, competencies, attributes and behaviours for success.
The OHA has tackled these issues on several levels. Just two examples are the Governance Centre of Excellence, which provides a broad range of services and educational programs for health care trustees, and our leadership competency models within a talent management framework. The competency models are being provided to Member organizations to help them address their talent management needs without having to re-create their own competencies, and also to set a standard for Members.
