The Excellent Care for All Act, 2010, focuses on enhancing accountability and transparency, as well as ensuring patient- and family-centred care across Ontario’s health care system.  The board plays a key role in ensuring that their organization satisfies the legislation’s requirements through the development of a patient Declaration of Values (DoV) that is aligned with the organization’s quality improvement plan and strategies.  However, to build an organization that is truly patient- and family-centred, the board must go beyond ensuring that these requirements are in place and support a culture of quality and patient safety that considers the experience and input of patients and families throughout their organization.

The following templates provide self-assessment tools, leading practices and key considerations for the board to draw upon when engaging patients and families.

4.1 Framework and Principles for Patient and Family Engagement
4.2 Declaration of Values
4.3 Bringing Patient Experiences to the Board
4.4 Patient Relations Self-Assessment Tool for Organizations
