Over the past few years, New Oral Anticoagulants (NOAC) have been introduced into clinical practice in the prevention of thromboembolism and are being used more frequently with hospital patients. Although there are several practical advantages associated with the new drugs, there are important safety implications that providers must consider. This broadcast will discuss the evidence and indications for using the new anticoagulants, provide participants with information on the appropriate selection, monitoring and management of patients on new drugs, and review the important safety implications.
