The OHA has a mandate to promote and foster excellence in health care governance to promote a culture of shared accountability and to assist hospitals in their efforts to enhance governance of their organizations.
It is the responsibility of a hospital/health care board to ensure new directors and new committee members receive orientation to their role as member of the board and/or member of a committee.
A board member’s orientation should include 4 components:
1. Health care environment
2. Hospital specific operations
3. Hospital stakeholders and key relationships
4. Board governance
The following resources are intended to help directors in their role as board members.
