Financial Management and Budgeting (Home Study) 

January 2009 - December 2009

 

In these times of financial constraint and increased pressure to perform, financial management skills make the difference. This course, which is designed to meet the needs of health care managers, will show you how to plan more effectively and deal with the issues that affect finances in your area of responsibility.

Topics include:

 

- Making full use of government funding and other sources of revenue to support your department/unit;
- Forecasting and justifying workload volumes;
- Assessing and monitoring productivity by using workload productivity indicators;
- Establishing and justifying staffing levels;
- Using proven techniques to analyze budget/actual variances; Separating volume related variances from cost related

  variances;
- Dealing more effectively with the finance department and administration regarding financial matters;
- Achieving better financial control of your department/unit;
- Assessing the impact of new and/or expanded programs and medical staff changes in your department/unit.

 

Program Leader:
 

Eric Sparks is President of EKS Associates Inc., a company specializing in financial management consulting. In addition to an active and varied training schedule, Mr. Sparks provides consulting services to health care organizations.

 

Completion Criteria:
 

All OHA courses award a certificate of completion at the successful conclusion of a program. Generally, the completion criteria includes attendance to at least 75% of classes, a written test, and / or the presentation / submission of a project. In order to receive a certificate of completion all course requirements for classroom-based programs must be completed within four weeks of course end date.

 

Diploma in Health Care Management:


The Diploma in Health Care Management is awarded to individuals who have successfully completed Leading Management in the New Millennium.

Level I and Level II, and seven advanced courses consisting of the following four required advanced courses: Applied Research Methods; Financial Management & Budgeting; Managing Human Resources; Principals and Applications of Health Law, and three (3) elective courses chosen from the remainder of our advanced curriculum for a total of nine (9) credits.


Registration Information:

 

Payment of the registration fee is required prior to the conference to guarantee a space.

Fee: $660.00 plus GST $33.00 = $693.00

The registration fee includes general program expenses, materials, light refreshments and beverages.
