What is a broadcast?

Broadcasts encompass webcasts, videoconferences, media captures of conferences and archived events.

 

What is a videoconference?
A videoconference is a broadcast or meeting that allows attendees to meet using special videoconferencing technology. For upcoming videoconferences, click here.

 

In order to attend a videoconference you will need to schedule access to videoconferencing equipment. Videoconferences feature two-way communication where the presenter is seen and heard and the audience also may be seen and heard.

The OHA uses the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) to connect to all our members and follows OTN codes of conduct and uses NCompass, the OTN scheduling software. More information is available at www.otn.ca.

 

How do I register for a videoconference?

For upcoming videoconferences, click here. Videoconference registration is available through NCompass or by contacting the OTN scheduling desk.  Before you register in a videoconference please ensure that you are familiar with your institution’s policies and possible costs associated with use of the videoconferencing studios and the availability of your videoconference room.  Usually a link to the NCompass location is available from the events flyer and OHA webpage.

 

What is NCompass?
NCompass is the OTN scheduling software used to schedule videoconference events. If you are a member of OTN, you may have a colleague who is an NCompass user. Check with your Telemedicine Coordinator.

 

How do I know if I have videoconference equipment?

Most, if not all, hospitals in Ontario have video conference equipment. The quickest way of determine if you have videoconference equipment is to contact your IT or Communications department. The person responsible is often referred to as the “Telemedicine Coordinator”. Before you register in a videoconference please ensure that you are familiar with your institution’s policies and any possible costs associated the participation in a videoconference event.

 

Why is there a limit of how many videoconference sites can participate in OHA videoconference events?

Once the resources capacity is met, OHA will not exceed the limit as this compromises the quality and integrity of the event for all participants.
 
What is a webcast?

A webcast is a broadcast or meeting that allows attendees to participate using a computer with an internet connection. In order to attend a webcast a web address is required and sometimes an access password. For upcoming webcasts, click here.

 

Webcasts hosted by the OHA represent one-way communication, where you see and hear the content. In order to respond to a webcast presentation you will either type a question in a question box on screen or reply to an assigned email address. You can not speak directly to the presenters during a webcast. Most OHA webcasts are archived for playback at your convenience.

 

How do I register for a webcast?
Complete and submit on online registration form from the event webpage. A registration form and registration fee is required for each computer that will be used to log into the webcast. We do not require information regarding where the computer is located or your connection information. For upcoming webcasts, click here.

 

What are the technical requirements of participating in a webcast?

In order to view a webcast, participants require a computer with internet access, Microsoft Silverlight and functioning computer speakers. To install Microsoft SilverLight on your computer please click here.

 

Is there a limit of how many computers can participate in OHA webcast and webinar events?

The OHA has the ability to increase its capacity when necessary to meet demand.

 

Where are free archived events kept on the OHA webpage?

To access free archived events, click here. Click on the event you wish to view and it will play on your computer.

 

Do I need a username and password to view free archived events?

No.  If you are prompted for a user name and password to view a free archived event this is means an issue has arisen within your institution’s firewall and you will need to contact your internal IT department.

 

How do I purchase access to a past webcast?

To visit the Webcasts section of the Knowledge Centre Store, click here. Webcasts are available for access purchase for six months following the broadcast of the live event.
