Ontario Hospital eHealth Adoption Survey

The OHA and the Hospital eHealth Leadership Council have been gathering information since 2005 to assess the extent to which Ontario's hospitals various clinical practices are capturing, using and sharing health information through information and communication technologies. Understanding where hospitals are today on eHealth adoption is valuable for continuing to build toward achieving the promise of eHealth, including the creation of a comprehensive Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Through the participation of Ontario's hospitals, the eHealth Adoption Survey provides the province's most comprehensive examination of the state of eHealth. Better information on individual levels of eHealth adoption helps hospitals benchmark their own progress and understand where they can look for leadership. It helps leaders seeking to improve integration better understand relative strengths and needs in order to facilitate collaboration. It helps system planners understand the nature and pace of change and advocate for where special emphasis is required to achieve a vision of better care. The OHA hopes that this detailed reporting on the implementation of eHealth will be a catalyst for informed decision-making and the accelerated achievement of the promise of eHealth.
