Upcoming Conference Health Care Governance Forum
Sunday, September 16 and Monday, September 17, 2007
Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel, 5875 Airport Rd., Mississauga
Any organization that embraces openness and accountability as readily as Ontario’s hospitals must also manage the tensions that may arise during public debates about complex issues, such as whether to adopt new, modern models of providing care. These debates, along with strict reporting requirements, quality, and other accountability measures have made the leadership of the hospital trustee more important than ever.
The OHA is committed to supporting its members through change and challenge and to developing programs and initiatives that strengthen the leadership of health care trustees. This conference is a timely one, and a valuable opportunity for trustees to network, to learn, and to share best practices with colleagues.
The conference begins with a networking dinner on Sunday, September 16, featuring Professor David R. Beatty O.B.E., Managing Director, The Canadian Coalition for Good Governance. It continues on September 17 with a number of thought-provoking presentations, including an “Overview of the Health Care Environment” by OHA Board Chair, Ruthe-Anne Conyngham, as well as sessions providing tools for trustees led by Dr. John Wright, Vice President, Medical Affairs at the University Health Network and Neil Seeman, Managing Consultant, Health Care Practice, IBM Global Business Services in Toronto and Adjunct Professor, Health Services Management, Ryerson University. Delegates will also hear from James E. Orlikoff from Orlikoff & Associates, Inc., who will offer his insight into the “Emerging Issues in Health Care System Governance”. A moderated session with speakers providing their thoughts on “Engaging your Community” will round out the day.
