Toronto – Mark Rochon, Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) Board Chair, today announced that Tom Closson will be appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the OHA, effective January 14, 2008.
“Tom has an outstanding track record of leadership and accomplishment in health care,” said Rochon. “His career as a health care CEO and government executive, and his depth of knowledge and expertise make him ideally suited to serve as our new President and CEO.”
Mr. Closson is one of Canada’s most prominent health care leaders. He has previously served as President and CEO of three of the nation’s leading health care organizations: the University Health Network in Toronto; the Capital Health Region in Victoria, British Columbia; and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, also in Toronto. He is a professional engineer, holds a Master of Business Administration and has extensive experience in health care management and governance, leadership and facilitation, change management, strategy development and e-health implementation.
“I believe in the vision of the Ontario Hospital Association and am excited about the opportunity to help lead its efforts to make our health care system even better for the patients it serves,” said Closson. “Collaboration is the key to improving health care. The OHA can continue to play a compelling leadership role in developing solutions by building even stronger health system partnerships with the Ministry, LHINs, associations and providers.”
“This is a time of tremendous change in Ontario’s heath care system,” added Rochon. “Our Board believes that Tom will provide outstanding leadership to the OHA and its members during this time of change and transformation.”
Mr. Closson will assume his responsibilities after the retirement of current OHA President and CEO Hilary Short following her 34 years of exemplary service to the organization.
