The LHIN Agenda and the New Government
presented by Ontario Hospital Association
Course name: The LHIN Agenda and the New Government
Course duration: January 25, 2008
Location: Renaissance Toronto Hotel Downtown, One Blue Jays Way, Toronto
Course code: EP 110

A new year and a new government mandate present a perfect opportunity to assess Ontario’s new Local Health Integration Networks, their progress and their future agenda. Featuring a variety of LHIN leaders, Ministry and external perspectives, this conference will provide insights on the challenges facing the Ontario health care system as it continues to evolve, as well as the role of the LHINs and their provider partners in meeting those challenges.
LHINs now have funding authority over a significant portion of the Ministry’s overall budget. To what extent will this authority be used to make real changes in what programs are delivered and how? How much autonomy are LHINs likely to be given in their decision-making? Have they been given the tools to be successful?
How will progress be evaluated with this “made in Ontario” model? What can we learn from other jurisdictions who are farther along the integration journey? How should decisions be made on clinical program distribution? What can we learn from the experience of Cancer Care Ontario and from other provinces?
Patients have the freedom to get care from the provider of their choice, regardless of geographic boundaries. How will boundary issues get sorted out when programs get modified and when natural patient flows do not fit with LHIN boundaries?
Confirmed speakers include
Penny Ballem (former Deputy of Health from British Columbia),
Terry Sullivan, CEO of Cancer Care Ontario,
Cathy Fooks, CEO of the Change Foundation,
Barry McLellan, CEO of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre,
Vida Vaitonis, Mississauga Halton Community Care Access Centre and several LHIN CEOs.
