Sault Area Hospital

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) in Sault Ste Marie is committed to patient safety and it is one of the main corporate priorities of the hospital.

SAH has participated in the OHA Patient Safety Campaign Your Healthcare: Be Involved since its inception in 2005. We have displayed the campaign posters in several areas throughout our organization, such as the Emergency Department, Walk-in Clinic and other out-patient clinics. We have also distributed the brochures and tear-off sheets to the above mentioned areas and other patient care areas throughout SAH.

During the 2007 Canadian Patient Safety Week, displays of the campaign posters and brochures were set up at our two hospital sites for all staff, visitors and patients to see. In addition to this, a media release and a newspaper column were produced and sent during this week. These communication tools described the common sense tips patients could use to enhance their involvement in making their healthcare decisions. We also provided 12 posters to the Sault Ste Marie City Transit to display in our local city buses.

The hospital is also in the process of developing a new corporate website and will be developing a section on safety which will include patient-focused information.
