Premier McGuinty Shuffles Cabinet

For the Attention of Hospital CEOs, Board Chairs, OHA Board of Directors and CACN Members

This morning Premier Dalton McGuinty announced a shuffle of his Cabinet. The Premier is assuming responsibility for a new portfolio - the Ministry of Research and Innovation. The government's major portfolios of Finance, Health and Education remain unchanged. However, Jim Watson has been named Minister of Health Promotion, a portfolio dedicated to promoting healthy living and illness prevention. The number of ministers in the Executive Council has increased by two for a total of 25. The names and responsibilities of the new Cabinet are listed below:

Premier Dalton McGuinty - President of the Executive Council and Minister of Research and Innovation, a new portfolio

Gerard Kennedy - Minister of Education

Mary Anne Chambers - Children and Youth Services

Chris Bentley - Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities

George Smitherman - Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

Jim Watson - Minister of Health Promotion

Laurel Broten - Minister of the Environment

Gerry Phillips - Minister of Government Services (combines elements of the former Management Board Secretariat and the former Ministry of Consumer and Business Services)

Greg Sorbara - Finance Minister

Joe Cordiano - Minister of Economic Development and Trade (including responsibility for business registration and consumer protection)

David Caplan - Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal and Deputy House Leader (assumes responsibility for management of government assets, which includes responsibility for the Ontario Realty Corporation, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario)

Mike Colle - Minister of Citizenship and Immigration

Jim Bradley - Minister of Tourism (assumes responsibility for Seniors)

Michael Bryant - Attorney General

Monte Kwinter - Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services

Marie Bountrogianni – Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs with responsibility for the Democratic Renewal Secretariat

Leona Dombrowsky - Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs

Sandra Pupatello - Minister of Community and Social Services and Minister Responsible for Women's Issues (also assuming responsibility for Ontarians with disabilities)

Steve Peters - Minister of Labour

David Ramsay – Minister of Natural Resources (assumes responsibility for the Ontario Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat)

Rick Bartolucci - Minister of Northern Development and Mines

Dwight Duncan - Minister of Energy, House Leader, and Chair of Cabinet

Harinder Takhar - Minister of Transportation

Madeleine Meilleur - Minister of Culture and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs

John Gerretsen - Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
