Toronto – As the initial step in helping to ensure hospitals are equipped to comply with the province's new Personal Health Information Protection Act, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) has developed a Toolkit to guide hospitals through the implementation process.
"Providing hospitals with the additional support they need to implement Ontario's new privacy legislation is a priority for the OHA," said Hilary Short, President and CEO of the OHA. "While we realize that a number of other supports will be needed as the legislation comes into effect, the Toolkit serves as a significant resource in beginning to apply the new measures in our hospitals."
The Privacy Toolkit provides hospitals with a digest of key legislative requirements, as well as recommended procedures, guidelines, template forms and audit tools. The project was undertaken as a collaborative initiative of the OHA, the Ontario Hospital eHealth Council, the Ontario Medical Association, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and guided by a Working Group comprised of hospital representatives.
"We hope that this Toolkit will serve as a user-friendly guide to better understanding the legislation, and its impact on the health care system," said Short.
The Privacy Toolkit can be ordered through OHA's Publications line at 416-205-1350 or the OHA's web site at www.oha.com.
