OHA INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE HOSPITAL GOVERNANCE
Toronto – Today the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) launched a new initiative that responds to the needs of hospital trustees and will improve hospital governance.
"Ontario's hospitals are national leaders when it comes to governance and accountability," said OHA President and CEO Hilary Short. "We are confident that hospital boards and trustees will find this
Guide to Good Governance a valuable tool in enhancing hospital governance practices and processes."
Developed by Borden Ladner Gervais, LLP for the OHA’s Governance Leadership Council (GLC), the goal of this user-friendly guide is to foster excellence in health care governance by providing users with best practice models and practical implementation advice.
The GLC is a 15-member, "blue-ribbon" panel chaired by Virginia McLaughlin, Chair of Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre, and a former member of the OHA Board of Directors. The GLC was created in November 2004 to provide hospital boards and trustees with the tools and expertise they need to improve accountability in an ever-changing health care environment.
"We live in an era when taxpayers expect their institutions to be accountable for every initiative and every decision," said Short. "This guide will help Ontario's hospital leaders meet – and exceed – these expectations."
