Toronto - Today the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) congratulated the individuals appointed as founding Board Members and CEOs of the fourteen Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) currently being created across Ontario.
"We welcome these capable individuals, and wish them the every success," said Hilary Short, President and CEO of the OHA. "They are assuming very challenging roles in our health care system, and we look forward to working closely with them in the months and years ahead."
At the same time, Ms. Short noted that the success of the Government of Ontario’s health care plan hinges on the close collaboration between the government and its partners in the health care sector.
"Today, the Minister indicated that creating LHINs is an evolutionary process, and that he plans to move in a deliberate fashion," said Ms. Short. "We believe that Ontarians would benefit if the government would avail themselves of the years of experience and insights of hospital and health care professionals when moving forward with the creation of LHINs - arguably the most important piece of the government’s health care plan."
"That is why we strongly encourage the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to make the draft LHIN legislation available to hospitals and other health professionals well before its introduction in the Legislature, so that our advice can be brought to bear in a meaningful way."
"Such a consultation would result in a better piece of legislation - one that will incorporate and build on Ontario’s unique strengths in efficiency, accountability, voluntary governance and quality of care."
"We look forward to working with the LHIN Board Members and CEOs, and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, to improve Ontario’s health care system to the benefit of patients."
