Toronto - The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) welcomed today’s announcement of a new Cancer System Quality Index by Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), and sees it as a landmark improvement in understanding access to cancer care and in strengthening accountability for cancer services to taxpayers and to patients.
"Cancer Care Ontario has always been a leader in innovation for cancer care," said Hilary Short, President and CEO of the OHA."The new Cancer System Quality Index will serve as an important tool for our cancer centres to demonstrate to patients and to the public, the progress they are making in improving cancer services."
According to the details of today’s announcement, the web-based Cancer System Quality Index is the first of its kind in North America, and is comprised of 25 quality and performance indicators chosen to measure performance against five goals for the cancer system.
"Tracking access and the quality of care provided in Ontario’s cancer centres will help identify where improvements need to be made," added Ms. Short. "This will be a useful tool in enhancing cancer care for patients across the province."
