Kirkland and District Hospital
The Kirkland and District Hospital participated in the re-launch of the OHA Patient Safety Campaign on October 12, 2007. The organization had already been displaying the large dry mounted “Your Health Care-Be Involved”, posters in our waiting areas since 2005. With the re-launch, the new horizontal posters were posted in all of our Emergency rooms and many of our Visiting Specialists’ Clinic rooms. The poster holding the “take-one” pads, was posted on a bulletin board in our Emergency waiting room.
The bilingual “Your Health Care-Be Involved” pamphlets are available in all of our waiting areas and posters and pamphlets were also shared with The Kirkland District Family Health Team and the Centre de Sante Communautaire Du Temiskaming. The five patient safety tips were adverstised in our local newspaper on both Oct. 12th and Oct. 14th, 07 and are currently being advertised individually through paid radio ads by our local radio station, CJKL and in the Centre de Sante’s newsletter.
Our clinical staff is very appreciative for the work done by the OHA to provide us with these materials as they help us to meet accreditation requirements and have made our patients more aware of their responsibilities in regards to their own health care experience. It appears that this campaign has resulted in an increase in patients’ tolerance of the many necessary questions asked by our health care professionals at each medical visit. It has also enhanced our medication reconciliation processes as patients are now bringing in their medications or current medication profiles when attending the hospital.
